Install a VPN client as described here: VPN instructions
Under "Institute Access" select the access LMU via LRZ-VPN.
The VPN client connects you to the "split tunnel" by default. If you have not changed this yet, disconnect the VPN connection, select the full tunnel (special, Wireguard), and reconnect.
Once you are connected to the Munich Science Network, you can connect to the remote server.
Tip: If you are using Full Tunnel (Wireguard) and still want to access a local network printer or computer, disable the "Block traffic outside VPN" option in the eduVPN settings (gear icon).
Once you are connected to the Munich Science Network, you can connect to the remote server. You can log in with your LMU user ID (campus email address) or your LRZ user ID and campus password.
Start a remote client and use it to connect to rd.ifkw.lmu.de. Which remote client you use depends on your computer's operating system (see below).
Start the Remote Desktop Connection program, which is pre-installed in Windows. You can find it by clicking on the Windows icon or the magnifying glass in the start bar and typing in "Remote Desktop Connection."
Enter the address of the remote desktop server: rd.ifkw.lmu.de
The remote desktop connection will ask for a user name and password. Enter your campus ID (campus email address) or ADS\<LRZ ID>.
You can download the Windows App program free of charge from the App Store. After launching the program, you can create a new connection using the Add PC icon.
There you must enter the following:
PC name: rd.ifkw.lmu.de
Credentials: ads\<your LRZ ID>
