VPN (Virtual Private Network)
A virtual private network (VPN) enables users to establish a virtual encrypted connection directly to the university's data network from any location on the Internet.
The VPN client must be used to access the university network or the Internet.
The VPN ensures that
To use the VPN access, you must have an LMU account as a member of the university and install a client program on your computer, which can be used free of charge.
Please note that for the duration of the VPN connection—even if you are working on your private computer—you must use your user ID and are therefore subject to the LMU's Terms of Use for Information Processing Systems and the Terms of Use for the LMU University Network.
Please make sure that you do NOT connect to the LMU VPN via an existing VPN connection, e.g., via a VPN provided by your antivirus software. Doing so may result in your user account being blocked.
Before connecting, you can choose between Split Tunnel (default) and Full Tunnel at the bottom. Only with Full Tunnel do all Internet requests flow through the VPN. This is useful if you want to surf without third parties (e.g., government agencies) being able to log all requests. With Split Tunnel, only requests to LMU services go through the VPN.
