Partnerships of the IfKW
The Institute for Communication Studies and Media Research has excellent international academic contacts. It currently maintains over 30 partnerships with institutes in Europe, North America, Australia, Latin America, and Asia. Within the framework of these partnerships, exchange programs include fixed contractual agreements for guest semesters for students. This allows up to 80 students to spend one or two semesters abroad each year—and, in return, students from our partner institutes to come to Munich as guests.

Danish School of Journalism (Aarhus/Copenhagen) | Danmarks Journalisthøjskole (Århus/ København)
Here, students can choose from various English-language programs. Semesters run from August to January and from January to June.

The Department of Media and Communication in Leicester is one of the leading institutions for communication studies in the UK. The courses offered are more research-oriented. At the new partner institute, you will be able to study in a research environment very similar to that at the IfKW, while still getting to know a different academic culture. The University of East Anglia in Norwich, in the east of England, is one of the best educational institutions in the UK. The campus university offers a comprehensive range of courses at the School of Art, Media and American Studies, and there is also a varied program of activities outside the lecture hall. The University of Exeter is also a very British campus university with an active campus life and a wide range of courses offered by the Faculty of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. The IfKW's most recent partnership is with the Institute for Journalism and Communication Studies at the University of Vienna in Austria. With around 90,000 students, the University of Vienna is the largest university in the German-speaking world and one of the largest in Europe. (Semester dates: October–February; March–June).

U.Porto is one of LMU's EUGLOH partner universities. You can now apply for an exchange place directly through the IfKW. Portugal's second-largest university is ranked among the top 100 universities in Europe. The Faculty of Arts at U.Porto offers numerous English-language courses at the bachelor's and master's level in this subject area.

The IfKW and the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information (WKWSCI) have been working closely together on research for years. For the past few years, bachelor's students have also been able to take advantage of exchange opportunities here. There is currently no capacity for master's students at the WKWSCI. Through an exchange program with Fudan University's Fudan Journalism School, master's students can spend up to two semesters at one of the leading universities in the People's Republic of China. The range of subject-related courses is diverse and includes many courses taught in English. Bachelor's students can only study in Chinese here.
