Wi-Fi is available in all public areas of LMU:
- BayernWLAN is intended for guests and occasional users. This network requires a hotspot login each time it is used, but no login details.
- The eduroam network is ideal for regular users. A campus ID is required to log in. Once set up, Wi-Fi is also available at other European universities.
Note: Connecting notebooks to the network sockets, e.g., in the CIP room, is not permitted and does not provide an Internet connection.
Connect to the Wi-Fi
BayernWLAN
Guests and occasional users can easily connect to BayernWLAN. They will be redirected to a website where they must agree to the terms and conditions in order to access the internet via the network.
eduroam
For regular users, it is recommended to set up eduroam. This allows laptops, tablets, or smartphones to connect automatically via Wi-Fi.
- Install the eduroam certificate or profile via cat.eduroam.org → Download → LMU → User group "eduroam.campus.lmu.de". This installation is important to prevent your campus password from falling into the wrong hands.
- If you are using MacOS or iOS, activate the profile in Settings → Privacy & Security → Profiles (at the very bottom). If there is still an old eduroam profile there, e.g. because you have transferred to LMU from another university, delete it.
- Use your LRZ ID plus @eduroam.mwn.de as your username for eduroam, e.g., ab123cd@eduroam.mwn.de (alternatively, your campus email address will also work, e.g., vorname.nachname@campus.lmu.de).
- If you do not know your 7-digit LRZ ID by heart, you can find it in the LMU Portal (www.lmu.de/portal) → User Account.
- Use your campus password as your password.
