Remote Desktop

Access

Students and staff of IfKW and GSI can work on a remote server of Faculty 15. Microsoft Office, MaxQDA, and the statistics packages R and SPSS are available there. Stata can only be accessed on site (in our two CIP rooms).

To access it from your own computer, you need

  • an LMU user ID with authorization for the CIP pools of the Faculty of Social Sciences
  • A VPN client to access the MWN (see below)
  • a remote desktop client
    • Windows: Remote Desktop Connection (pre-installed, mstsc.exe)
    • Mac OS/X: Remote Desktop.
If you are using a Mac, please use your LRZ ID and the domain ADS.
    • Linux: krdc or Remmina
(rdesktop does not support server authentication)

Instructions for Remote Desktop

Step 1:

First, you must connect to the Munich Science Network using the VPN client,
select “Full Tunnel” for this purpose. To change this setting, you must briefly disconnect from eduVPN.

Instructions for connecting with the VPN client can be found here.

Step 2:

Once you are connected to the Munich Science Network, you can connect to the remote server.

You can log in here using your LMU user ID (campus email address) or your LRZ user ID.

The password is the same one you use in the CIP pools or to log in to your LMU user account.

The address of the Remote Desktop Server, which must be specified when calling up the client, is rd.ifkw.lmu.de.

Here you will find instructions for Windows, macOS, and Linux.

Windows

Start the Remote Desktop Connection program, which is pre-installed in Windows. You can find it by clicking on the Windows icon or the magnifying glass in the start bar and typing in "Remote Desktop Connection."

Enter the address of the remote desktop server: rd.ifkw.lmu.de

The remote desktop connection will ask for a user name and password. Enter your campus ID (campus email address) or ADS\<LRZ ID>.

macOS

You can download the Windows App program free of charge from the App Store. After launching the program, you can create a new connection using the Add PC icon.

There you must enter the following:

PC name: rd.ifkw.lmu.de
Credentials: ads\<your LRZ ID>
