Overview of minor studies

PLEASE NOTE: All information on the following pages refers to the 2025 examination and study regulations and applies to students who begin their studies in the 2025/26 winter semester. The 60-ECTS minor program in Communication Studies will be reformed in the 2025/26 winter semester and is currently undergoing accreditation.

The minor program in Communication Studies, comprising 60 ECTS credits for bachelor's degree programs, provides a solid foundation in communication studies and media research, with a particular focus on media. The minor program teaches students to use scientific methods to analyze problems, contexts, discourses, and narratives in the field of mass media and public communication.

Course content

Theoretical and empirical approaches to communication studies as part of the social sciences are taught and practiced. Core aspects of the minor program include the topicality of the subjects covered and a look at historical and future aspects that determine and drive media change. Students gain fundamental insights into the research fields of communication studies, which are then deepened in specific areas of application.
