IfKW once again among the world’s leading institutes in communication research

Our institute once again ranks among the world’s leading institutions in communication research. In the 2026 Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) by ShanghaiRanking, the IfKW is ranked 9th worldwide in the Communication category and 1st in Germany.

This result once again confirms the Institute’s position among the international leaders in the field and underlines its strong standing in both research and teaching.

The ranking considers criteria including the quality and impact of research, world-class research output, international collaboration, and the academic standing of researchers. The IfKW’s result reflects the high quality and international visibility of the research conducted at the Institute.

We would like to thank all colleagues and research partners who contribute to this success and look forward to further strengthening the IfKW’s position in international communication research.

The result is also a notable achievement for LMU Munich as a whole: Communication is one of five subjects at the University to rank first in Germany in this year’s ranking.
