About the person

Simon Greipl studied Psychology at the University of Salzburg, where he completed his master’s thesis on the neurofunctional development of reading in children aged five to seven. He subsequently worked for one year as a research assistant at the University of Marburg, where he was responsible for conducting a content analysis of media coverage on refugees during the 2015 crisis.

In August 2017, he joined the Leibniz-Institut für Wissensmedien (Tübingen) as a research associate and doctoral researcher. He worked on the project “Advantages of a Game-Based Cognitive Interface” within the Leibniz ScienceCampus “Cognitive Interfaces.” His doctoral research focuses, among other aspects, on the neurofunctional and emotional dimensions of game-based learning.

Since January 2020, Simon Greipl has been working as a research associate in a research project at the chair led by Professor Rieger at the Department of Communication at LMU Munich.

Research interests: Simon Greipl’s methodological expertise ranges from text mining to neurocognitive methods. His research includes the study of digital educational games, with a particular focus on the reciprocity between emotion and cognition. Within the project, he is engaged in the detection and analysis of radicalization processes and extremism on the internet.
