Zhe Xu
He is a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Media and Communication at LMU Munich. In 2024, he was awarded a Walter Benjamin grant by the German Research Foundation (DFG).
He holds degrees in engineering and media studies and earned his Ph.D. from the University of Cologne in 2023. During his time there, he worked as a research and teaching assistant in media studies and received training in data science and machine learning from the Center for Data and Simulation Science (CDS) and the Department of Digital Humanities (IDH).
In his research, he applies social science and data science methods to diverse datasets of news corpora and human behavior to explore how media and technology engage with global humanitarian crises, and how policymaking, public decision-making, and cosmopolitan socialization are shaped in response.
