About the person

Sophia Rothut is a research associate in the lab of Prof. Dr. Diana Rieger, IfKW at LMU Munich. In her PhD project, she investigates the role of social media influencers in (political) information dissemination. She also focuses on the concept of the mainstreaming of radical and extremist ideology, online radicalization, and measures to curb harmful online content, including regulatory approaches to it.

From 2016 to 2019, she studied the Bachelor of Communication Science with Economics at the LMU Munich and subsequently (2019-2021) the Master of Communication Science also at the LMU Munich. She was awarded the Best Thesis Award for both her Bachelor's and Master's theses. In addition to internships in journalism and in the Bundestag as well as working in board communication, event management, and personnel development, she was a student assistant at IfKW during her studies.
